Cueva de las Cabras

Cueva de las Cabras, a circular walk of about 2 – 3 hours, between 6 and 7 kilometres. Fairly flat walk along the mountain ridge overlooking Famara. The path is well defined, but with quite narrow stretches and vertical drop offs to one side. If heights are a problem then this walk might not be the best for you. I recommend a walking pole for some of the narrow sections and avoid the walk in high winds.

Directions

From Arrecife pick up the LZ-10 and follow it through Teguise and Los Valles. Leaving Los Valles climb to one of the highest points on the island. You can park near the Mirador Barranco del Chafarís or at El Bosquecillo.

The Walk

If you have parked by the road, make your way to El Bosquecillo along the dirt track past the goat farm. From El Bosquecillo make your way over the ridge line with the radar station on your left and the sweeping views down to the sea and Famara on your right.

After about 10 minutes walk, halfway along the ridge you come to the goat cave after which this walk is named.

This is a small cave nestled into the top of the cliff face. There are some crudely cut steps, but to get to them you have to clamber down over the edge.

The views are impressive from the cave but it is definitely not for the faint hearted. Later on in the walk we will find two other caves systems, which are much easier to access and just as impressive.
