Punta Mujeres – Haria

The Punta Mujeres – Haria walk is about 4 – 5 hours depending on breaks, but is well marked throughout. There are two ascents, not steep and good under foot. It’s about 17km as measured on the map, so is probably a little longer.

In Haria, we took a coffee and cake break at Centro Cultural La Tegala, just across from the Church.

Directions – Punta  Mujeres

Follow the LZ-1 out of Arrecife and take the first exit at the Tahiche round-a-bout. Continue along the LZ-1, past Costa Teguise, Guatiza and Mala. In Arrieta, straight ahead at the round-a-bout. Take the next right to continue on the LZ-1. Ignore the first turning for Punta  Mujeres, take the second just after the Aloe Vera museum. Park up in the village, be careful not to park on Private Property.

The Walk

From the junction of Calle la Quemadas and the LZ-1, head north west up the dirt track, Camino Punta Mujeres. Continue ahead crossing the LZ-201. Almost at the top, Camino Punta Mujeres turns to the left, we take the dirt road ahead.

The route passes many small farms and eventually comes out onto the LZ-205. Turn right and follow the tarmac road for 660m, take the path on the left. The path climbs steadily up onto the bluff until it joins with Calle Molino.

Turn left here and follow Calle Molino up and round to the right. You will pass a small path that emerges from the left, you will come out here later in the walk. Behind you have the views down to Maguez. As you reach the top you come out into a shallow bowl with a farm and small holding nestled in the middle.

Follow the dirt road through the bowl. At the eastern edge it turns south and down and comes to an end at a Water Storage Depot. Take the small path past the depot which winds slowly round the hillside. After about 365m look for a small path leading diagonally back up the hillside.

You now find a series of excavations into the hillside. Now abandoned they have been put to many uses over the years. There is evidence of water channelling and storage and more modern block work and staging areas.

Continue around the hillside eventually coming out once again onto Calle Molino. Turn right and down and bear left, following the lane down into Haria.

The walk continues in part 2
