Stratvs

Stratvs is a hike of about 1½ hours through the vineyard region of La Geria. I parked in the parking area opposite Bodega STRATVS, which in itself is well worth a visit. The terrain is mostly dirt track, but the last 800m is along the LZ-30. This tarmac road section can be avoided with a 1.7km extension. Opportunities for a coffee and cake or a spot of lunch are numerous. There are many bodegas throughout the La Geria region together with a number of small charming villages.

Directions

Take the LZ-30 north out of Uga or south from the Casa Museo del Campesino round-a-bout just outside San Bartolome. You can also pickup the LZ-30 southbound from Teguise.

The Walk

About 125m northbound off the LZ-30 is a dirt track to the right. Follow this dirt track and take the first right after about 400m. This is a gentle uphill for 330m where you take a left fork onto Camino Gaida. After another 400m take the right track which climbs up to the low part of the crater rim.

Once at the edge of the crater, you can walk down into the caldera or skirt the rim. Either way you are looking to cross to the opposite side.

On the far side of the crater rim, there is an old hunters path leading diagonally down the side of the crater, emerging onto a dirt track at the bottom.

Following the dirt track right leads you past El Chupadero restaurant and out onto the tarmac road. Here you can either turn right on the LZ-30 and follow it for 800m back to the car. Or make a short 1.7km dirt track detour as shown below.
