The Caldera de Gaida walk is between 2 and 3 hours depending on photo and water breaks. It passes through part of the vineyards of La Geria and ascends to the crater rim for glorious panoramic island views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ascent to the rim is a steep climb, but the path is well marked. The descent from the rim can be a little tricky to find and the last section back to the dirt track is a loose scree picon slope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Follow the LZ-30 North from Uga or South from Teguise and park opposite Bodega Stratvs<\/mark><\/a>, which is a great place for coffee & cake or a little tapas after the walk. <\/p>\n\n\n

The Walk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Head north along the LZ-30 from the car park for about 100m and take the dirt track on the right through the vineyard. After about 400m turn right up the lane, and at the top take the left fork onto Camino Gaida. Follow this track passing a house on the right named La Geria. At the next house on the left turn right and after 50m turn right again. Follow this steep path up onto Caldera Gaida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The path leads onto the crater rim. As you climb, you are afforded views both down to the coast and inland the length of La Geria wine district. Follow the rim about half way round and then look for a narrow sloping path down and to the left. This leads you to a row of Prickly Pear cactus running horizontally about half way up the volcanic cone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here you can go left or right. Either way, at the end of the cactus take the picon scree path directly down and turn right onto the dirt track at the bottom (PR LZ MB05). Follow this path all the way, turning left at the bottom back to the start outside Bodega Stratvs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
