Calla Art-Work

Claudie Hüppe aka, “Calla” is an amazing artist from the north of Lanzarote. She draws her inspiration from the nature that surrounds her.

Many of her unique pieces are collected and handcrafted from materials she collects from the seashore and the nature around her.

Her works arise from a keen eye, her love of nature and a pinch of humour.

You can contact Claudie through her website or by email.

Towel Holders

Hand-bent antique silver spoons and sugar tongs form the hooks for these driftwood towel holders.

Pendants

Created using an acrylic pouring technique, set into a medallion under glass on a silver-coloured chain – or black leather strap – they are an extraordinary piece of jewellery and each one is absolutely unique.

Palmatorias

I build these lanterns for the house and garden from fine driftwood branches. The individual pieces of wood are nailed to a solid, round wooden core and are virtually indestructible. The outer rope is for decorative purposes only. Inside there is a glass container in which you can burn a large candle or tea lights. The dancing shadow effects that such a “Palmatoria” casts on the wall are reminiscent of a campfire and create a particularly natural atmosphere.

DRIFTWOOD INSTALLATIONS.

Created from slender driftwood and sawn strips, some which I paint. For me they symbolize the constant change of ebb and flow.   On the back of the objects there is a sturdy cross board with eyelets for optimal attachment to your wall.

TIDAL JEWELRY

All the stones that I collect on the beach and use for my jewelry are pure natural stones. The precious metal wire is gently bent by hand and shaped so that the stone is symbolically “hugged” by it. All settings are made from silver and copper wire or solid sterling silver wire. The natural oxidation and slow “aging” of the metals – similar to the wrinkles in our skin – is intentional and a conscious stylistic device.

BRACELETS

Worked with silver and copper wire bending and twisting small curls, then carefully smoothed with a jewellery hammer . All bracelets are threaded on elastic, durable rubber. The foam crowns are made of silver or copper wire. The beads are made of glass, wood and shells. No plastic!

BEACH MAGNETS.

I paint each stone by hand with ink and acrylic paint. To protect the motifs, each stone has a final coat of clear sealant. There is a magnetic disk on the back, so you can easily attach them to the refrigerator, for example.

ACRYLIC PAINTING.

I have been working with acrylic for over 30 years. I am particularly fascinated by the possibility of mixing the colour itself, very casually, with a wide variety of materials and techniques. Stones, sand, paper, water, alcohol, oils… there are no limits to the creative process.

LEAVES OF EDEN – PLATES

I make these plates with natural impressions of garden plants with air-drying clay. My main inspirations are lavender, sage, princess flowers, angel trumpets, hibiscus and delicate grasses.
